Newt Eggs

Just a few more things...

From my understanding of the food situation, it is okay to leave the live food in there. Do I ever need to clean out live food?

And, I think I will opt not to use a filter and just clean out the tank regularly until they grow to a size that is strong enough for the Fluval filter. I will use a turkey baster and just make sure to clean out the tank daily of wastes. Is this sufficient?

How shallow is 'shallow' for the water? I have rocks for the newts to climb on for land mass, too.

Not unless it dies or there is too much there.

Yes.

Initially, maybe as little as an inch. The depth can increase as they grow and the risk of drowning decreases.

Here's a good article for looking ahead:

This thread is getting quite long. At some point, you should probably start a new one;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
