So I got my axolotl a couple of days ago from a pet shop that had it in a tank full of gravel. I took it home and figured it will heal but his health has decreased. At first he was not moving, he was just floating at the top of the tank, and then It won’t eat, now it seems like his intestines are popping out through his anus. I don’t know what to do. Or is if there is anything I can do…. I put him into a smaller container that was suggested to me.

If he has a prolapse, you need to get him to a vet.

You may be able to reduce the prolapse yourself, but chances are it will come back.

do you think that is what my axolotl has telling from the picture

I'd say get him to a vet as soon as possible. Being as he's so small I think it's best treatment (if any) is left to a professional.

That's a pretty severe prolapse. You need to get it to a vet now.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
