Hi my axolotl (joey) sleeps on top of my filter, is this normal? hes normally on the bottom of my tank swimming with his brothers but as soon i turn the lights off at night he swims on top of my filter and stays until the morning... he does this most of the nights ill post a pic when i catch him doin it again. :D

As long as he has no problem getting to the bottom of the tank, it's just a quirk. Sitting on the filter output is a lazy way of moving fresh water past the gills.

yeh he swims back down when the morning comes.. Thanks for the reply :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
