So this is my little rescue and from day one it has always had an odd coloring.

Any Ideas?

Wild type
Love those beautiful gills

Hmm.....not like any wild I have seen...its face is really speckled and the gray all over the body.

Never seen one quite like this... it's quite pretty. I like it. Pastel like colouring.

Bump! Any more ideas?

Looks wild-type, but the eyes are weird, possibly GFP wild-type?

she is certainly a little different but I agree, she looks like a wild type. She is very pretty too :) glad to see she is looking so much better.

One eye started being cloudy a while back..the second started clouding up a few weeks back so it was upgraded to a 10g from its small hospital tank...taking red worms finally!

I am so happy with how she has come around!
I was really worried for a while...now she eats like a bottomless pit.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
