Question: Aquatic newts and CO2 planted tanks?

Hey all, I'm curious if it is safe to keep your almost entirely aquatic newt species, like Notophthalmus viridescens, in a set up with a small co2 supply. I know fertilizers are bad so I'm looking for Newt-safe options to aid the plants growth.

I don't know if one could safely use co2 apply but you can set a planted tank also without co2 and fertilizers. Here was some old thread about planted tanks, take a look via search if you can find it (I'm on phone and search doesn't work here). It just takes a bit of time and you should choose such plants that are not into heavy lightning. In my tanks vallisneria, java fern and moss (other mosses too), anubias and top plants have been successful. And some long flowing plants which I can't remember in English. I have either bare bottoms or sand and in one tank tried dirt + sand and I've put clay under the root plants as a fertilizer.
 
I agree with Auli, here is a snap of one of my tanks planted with the species she suggested. I don't use Co2 or fertilise apart from what's produced by the newts, I just use decent quality LED lighting and play sand for the growing substrate.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
