North American Newts (Notophthalmus & Taricha) While not closely related, these two genera are the true newts of North America.

Default Confirming Noto.V.V

I've acquired 4 previously unknown newts and believe them to be Notophthalmus Viridescens Viridescens (Red Efts).
They've been captive kept on melanogaster fruit flies and 1mm meal worms for 6 months. History suggests they were possibly rescued from a pool around Buffalo, but could be from just about anywhere by the knowledge of the previous keeper (11yr old boy who received them from a visiting uncle).

Can anyone confirm my identification? Thanks! :)

Location is always the best identifier but they certainly look like Nvv.

Thanks! They're eating fruit flies with astounding alacrity.
