Best to start from the beginning. I'l get straight to the point.

I have a nice adult pair of fire salamanders and they have been thriving since last November. I think the female is pregnant.

I got a another new female and male adult pair a few weeks ago and now the male has suddenly and sadly passed away.

Everything around and in the enclosure of the salamanders is right. If something was off surely the first pair would of suffered by now?

So I am going to assume that maybe the first established male has suppressed this new male?

But I just can't find any conclusive evidence from research about how males react with each other and such within this species.

Any help or thoughts out there?

Yeah that is what i had thought. Maybe it had some underlying health issues or something, very strange even my friend said it physically did not look ill

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
