OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
I'm freaking out! I have these large flat marble things in the tank I keep my axies in...and one of them tried to eat one!!!!!!!
He didn't completely eat it, but it's stuck in his mouth!
He's just sitting there in the corner of the tank opening and closing his mouth....I don't think he can get it out; how do I remove it?!
It's not like I can jam my finger in his mouth and take it out
Has anyone experienced this?! What do I do?!?!?!?!?!

Calm down..take a deep breath.......
This is what I would try to do.I'd be tempted to leave your axolotl for a while in the hope it may be able to spit it out, if not you may need a little help from a friend here. Remove your axolotl from the tank and hold firmly with its head free. Using a teaspoon gently prise the mouth open and try to hook the marble out. Once its out make sure you remove the rest of the marbles from the tank. Do let us know how it goes. Fingers and toes are crossed.

Okay...well, my mother thinks I should leave Nikita alone for a little while to see if he'll spit it up on his own.
I called the pet store and asked what they thought I should do, right after I posted this (silly me for not trying them first) and the guy said try and pull the marble out with tweezers. The problem is, no matter what I use to try and get his mouth open and pull it out, I'm afraid I'll either hurt him (teaspoon seems far too big, and the tweezers are sharp) or shove the marble down further.
The guy at the pet store also said to try and hold him upside down (but with his gills in the water so he won't suffocate) and let gravity do it's thing. He's too slippery, and, again, I'm afraid of hurting him.
I'm so freaked out; I'll be very upset if he dies because of it.

You could try a baby spoon. The kind that is covered with plastic. They are smaller and with the plastic it won't cut or scrape him up. I have not done this before . It is the only thing I could think of.

Oh I'm so happy :D
I got the marble out!!!!
I tried pressing under his throat behind the marble before, but idt I was doing it right.
This time I tried and slid my finger forward a bit, which made his mouth open up really wide (but not enough to just slide the marble out) So...since his mouth was opened wide enough where tweezers wouldn't hurt him, I jiggled the marble with the tweezers and tried sliding my fingers forward a little again, and presto! It came out. Whew, I'm so relieved. He had me scared half to death. No more marbles... :p

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
