Daphnia food

I was boiling up some lettuce for my wood frog and toad tadpoles, and I was wondering if anyone ever used the left-over water from the boiling as daphnia food. I just got some starter cultures today, and figured I'd ask if someone'd tried it before I risked fouling the water and losing $15 worth of newt food.

I've been wondering the same thing, but I don't use the boiling water, in a day or two the water you put the lettuce in will be nice and green as well.

I'm now trying to use a second tank with lettuce to culture daphnia, as before I only kept them alive till it was feeding time. If this works, this should save me some time and money. (got to admit I added some algae I had been growing for a while)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
