Hi everyone.
I have these sinking fish pellets and saw they were 42% protein and 17% fat like other pellets used for Axis, however it also has trace amounts of iodine which I understand can cause metamorphosis....
Attached (hopefully) is a picture of the full ingredients.
Are these safe to give to a medium Axolotl?

Many thanks.

Fat is way to high from everything Iv read.. No more than 5% Fat is ideal.

I wouldn't use it if it was me.

Hi there, thank you for the advice.

However on Axolotl.org it advises:-
Indiana University Axolotl Colony, when it still existed, fed its axolotls with high protein and vitamin fortified pellets designed for salmon (5 mm diameter for adults, 3 mm for younger axolotls). The pellets are 45% protein and 20% fat.

Axolotls - Feeding

Could I ask where you have heard no more than 5% fat? I can't find much other information on pellets.
I may just stick to live worms.

Thank you again.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
