I’m new to this forum but I have a question no one in my Facebook groups seem to be able to answer. I have several axolotl and a few of them are GFP. I know they are visible under a blue light easily obtainable from a pet store. But RFP axolotl are not viewable under blue light. Honestly no one can tell me what lighting that I can get commercially to view them. Would a green grow light meant for plants work?

I was told by a breeder that a cyan LED at 488 nm. will express the rfp.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a Cyan LED light. Can you post a link to a sale page that would carry them?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
