So about almost a month ago (it will be a month of February 18th). I have been caring for my axolotl Habib. Who was very malnourished and sick. Now he is blossoming like a little flower! He has grown cute pink gills that have flourished. Although I recently noticed one of his eyes is actually missing! I think he may have gotten an infection and somehow it was taken off? Take a look and let me know what you think so far! The picture of him in a black container is when i first got him and the other two are progression and him now! You can also notice the eye missing.

Wow! Great progress! Is the eye completely missing or is it just a different colour? Take a look from a side view to see if it's concave or convex.

Good to see his improvements in health!
The eye, I am not quite sure. Get a side view to see if it is there or not.

Great job on rehabilitating Habib back to a better health! He or she was lucky you rescued her or him!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
