Illness/Sickness: ewww axy got white spots on its head and lost its gills

Please can someone help me? im new to this website and my axolotls has got white dots on his head, its not amark they are literally white spots and im really worries. when i was given him it was jus in a tank, no filter n sed he'd be fine a without a filter? well im not too sure now! please can someone help me?

Mickey, white spots on the head are usually due to the temperature of the water being too high. However, some axolotls have white spots on their head as markings.. can you supply us with a photo? :eek:

An axolotl's tank should have a filter, how big is the tank?

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
