Hello.

I inquired a while back about the reasons for a tiger salamander not eating. I changed the substrate in case that was part of the problem and shortly after the salamander disappeared into it. That was about a week ago and I haven't seen any sign of him since. There is no sign of a tunnel so presumably it's collapsed in on itself.Temps in the morning above the substrate are up to 75 dropping to 68 during the day with air-con.

What would you do in my situation? I'm considering digging him out. I was going to doing it today but I may put it off until Monday by which time he wont have eaten in close to seven weeks.

Starting to get very worried about this. Should I dig him up or wait a little longer? If I do dig him up would a trip to a vet advisable.

Thanks!

S.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
