Hello,
We are moving house in 2 weeks, going to be moving approx a 6 hour drive away from where we're currently living.
What is the best method of transporting our adult axolotl? We were thinking we could pop her in one of those big plastic fish bags you get from aquariums, putting this into a polystyrene box with a lid and bottling up her tank water so we can quickly remake her tank set up in our new house.
Would this work? Would she have enough air/oxygen in the water in the fish bag? And would this be particularly stressful for her?

Easiest way is in a bucket partially filled with water and a lid. Take along a few plastic drink bottles full of frozen water and drive away! Use those bottles to keep the axlotl bucket cool and you will have no problems. Skip feeding a few days before moving to prevent fouling of the water.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
