Ah, yes, I see bitten tails all the time too
But I've still never seen a Cynops larva swallowing another Cynops larva as I've seen with Hynobius, for example. I imagine larger larvae will eat smaller larvae from time to time, especially when alternative food is not available...but I've just never witnessed it.
