Im looking into maybe keeping these type and am wondering how people keep them. I have seen they like cooler temps and am wondering at what temps is best for them. My room that i keep my frogs in does at times get a bit warm, not to an extreme temps.

I would say not above 70F.

Windowless basement is probably the easiest especially if you live in the North! My basement is 48-55F right now depending on the specific location of the room. I'd be worried about an AC going out or a power outage, but I do know window units are cheap and the newer ones are pretty powerful. A closet is often a few degrees cooler if it has a door since heat is usually not blowing into it. I imagine frogs will like it warmer than salamanders, so I am not convinced I would even attempt to use the same room for both. My snakes are in a different room altogether than the salamander room I am building in the basement although I'll use neighboring space to cycle them so i don't need to cool the snake room any longer.

They are definitely not suitable for the average frogroom.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
