So I'm sitting here, looking across the room at the tank, and I see what looks like a comparatively big dark patch near the base of his tail, one that wasn't there this morning. So I'm understandably concerned but I think maybe it's a trick of the light. 20 minutes, it's still there, so i go over to look, and as I get closer it's like "oh, it's still there, it's on his body, what's happened?". I get to the chair in front of the tank and it turns out that Alexander is sitting there with one hind leg raised up for reasons which are unclear to me, and what I thought was a sudden dark spot is, in point of fact, a foot. And Alexander just shifts and looks at me like "I'm sorry, can I help you? I'm very busy at the moment".

This will go down in history as the day I was faked out by an axolotl.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
