I'm from the big island, been interested in fire salamanders for a long time now, but haven't been able to find any here :( I've had bullfrogs from tadpoles for a long time but I really want a salamander!

Welcome to the forum!
I don't know what the salamander situation is in Hawaii, maybe they don't allow any in? I think they have a few weird pet laws. Anyway, welcome and I hope you learn what you need to!

They do allow them! Haha I made sure of that, but there's only a tiny pet store this side of the island I'm on, Honolulu on the other hand has lots, just don't know how to get um here from there

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
