My axolotl has some white spots!

Most likely Columnaris,
It is fatal to Axies if not treated right away. Salt Bath time.
Get some AQUARIUM SALT. When my axie went through this I used API aquarium salt, if comes in a little cardboard carton, like the little milk jugs that school cafes give you. Get a large bowl/container/bucket, then fill it with about a gallon or two of water in it, make sure it matches the temperature of the tank, and put in the salt, one tablespoon per gallon. Keep him in there no longer than 15 minutes, best time is 10 minutes once a day. If kept longer gill deterioration will happen. Do t his for 3-4 days and he will be fine! :) Make sure to put a towel over the top to make sure light doesnt get in and stress him out more. Check you water, make sure Amonia is 0, and your PH is 7.2 or 7.4.
Good Luck!!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
