Hello,

I have a male paddle tail newt who i have had for nearly four years.
It was usually a rare sight to see him shed his skin but i have noticed it happen about three times in the past three weeks. Is this normal? Its always coming off in one and he eats it after- it's never flakey, theres no signs of fungus or mites.
The only thing I can think would cause a change was that he managed to get out of the tank during the day a few weeks ago and when I found him he was quite dry. He has perked up since and is behaving "normally" and is eating fine.

Well, he seems fine to me. But how old is he? He might just be growing really fast.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
