I noticed that there a few queries concerning the feeding of earthworms and the size of the worm to be fed. So, I have enclosed a couple of photos showing the possibilities.

The adult “T. granulosa” pictured actually ate this worm and had no negative side-effects. I did not make it a practice to feed such large earthworms though. I grow my own earthworms from “wild caught” stock . This allows one to choose from many different size worms – teeny weeny, tiny, medium, etc. Earthworms can be cut/torn into custom size pieces also. The "Ambystoma graciles" get medium ones, the "A. macrodactylum" the small ones, and the "Cynops orientalis" the tiny ones. You know what I mean...:p

The first picture is pretty intense!

Thanks for sharing this info! And it's a cool thing that you grow your own earthworms. Do you need to feed the earthworms with anything special? Or just normal organic matter?

most newts/salamanders can handle a earthworm as long as themselves.

 Nice post, very enlightening! What species are your worms? I usually have to cut my apart, because I only have very large and newts that I do not have the stature to eat whole! I feed my kornflakes with crushed egg shell and rabbit poop, are Dendrobaena spp. and now began at 6 months for the first eggs! ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
