Hey all,

Just wanted to show this guy off.
I got him/her this Saturday, it has no swollen cloaca so it could be a female(I wouldn't know).
Put her in a 55 gallon, opposite side in its own cave, from the first one I have already living there. They are separated by a pond. Hopefully I got two sexes:

This is the one I've had since April:

And this is the new one:

Those are some great photos Andrew. And just wondering, where did you get those marbled salamanders? Because I have yet to see them sold anywhere.

hey guys, I got them from a Friend who is Proff of Herpetology. I guess he collected them. Really didnt tell me.

that is a lovely specimen! if i had to say one way or another i'd guess that i a female because they grey seems "bluer" I've noticed that males are more white. but it is quite hard to tell when you do not have two to compare so i may be wrong.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
