Illness/Sickness: Axolotl Not Eating, Losing Weight

Hey all,
One of my axies suddenly lost her appetite after I introduced crickets into their diet. She won't even touch the pellets she used to love anymore. It's been about a week and a half, shes lethargic and visibly losing weight. I've tried tempting her with bloodworms but she only ate one bite.
I'm worried about her and I don't know what could have caused this or how to fix it.
Please help!!!
 
Well, lets start with, How big is your axolotl? How many crickets did you feed her?

Crickets are not suggested because axolotls cannot digest the chitin of their shells. This can lead to an impaction, blockage, floating, loss of appetite, stress, etc.

If she cannot pass them I would try putting her in a tub of cold clean dechlorinated water and possibly think about fridging her for a day or so to see if that helps.

I do know some people here feed crickets, mealworms, pinkies, beef, chicken, tuna, etc.... Personally I do not. I feed pellets and earthworms with an occasional addition of some bloodworms (as a treat, not as a meal).

Both my axies are about six inches in length.
Knowing it could be a blockage now, I am going to fridge her immediately.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
