My P. Chinensis has a little wound on his back. It is a 3mm darker patch with a very small bead of blood at the center.
right now he's on a bed of wet paper towels under a small hide, with a towel on the tank blocking out the light.
i put a small dab on neosporin on the wound this morning (with a qtip)
we'll see if he wants to eat tonight when i get home from work.

the bed of paper towels is raised slightly above the water level on his flat rock, and there is about 3 cm of water that he can slip into if he wants. ... it doesn't seem like he wants to though.

let me know if there;s something i should do or stop doing.

thanks

If you use Neosporin, make certain it is not the Pain Relief product, as it contains chemicals known to kill amphibians. Also, change the paper towels often, because wet paper towel is a great medium for bacterial growth. Every other day at least with a sick animal. Other than that, sounds like you're doing things right. Good luck!

ah, yes. i will change the paper towels frequently.
and yes, i'm using regualr neosporin.
thanks for the response.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
