I have a worry about my friend's axolotl. She sent me some pictures and asked my help but I have never had to deal with this kind of a problem. All i knew to suggest and try is to fridge.
Her adult male axolotl has swollen neck and throat.
He´s about 30cm long and 5 years old.
Refrigeration treatment have made some improvement (in 2 weeks time) but still not enough in my mind.
I'm particularly worried about veins under the throat. Throat is really bloated.
He also has some dark spots under belly and tail, that were not there some time ago. The other axolotls are fine. She feeds them 2-3 times a week. The male axolotl hasn´t been eating (offered) the whole time in fridge and hasn´t pooped also the same time.
Is there some better treatment than fridge?
The pictures have been taken 2 days ago.

Looks to me like he has a throat infection/inflammation, which can be the result of throat scratching/abrasion from sand or such. Does the axolotl have something lodged in it's throat, or has access to something that can do such? Also, this axolotl also appears to be very stressed, (the limbs being perpendicular to the body are a strong sign of extreme stress) coupled with the lack of interest in food support the throat-infection hypothesis. I would suggest seeking a qualified herpetologist as soon as possible, as this axolotl may starve if he has to gradually fight the infection without the aid of antibiotics. Regarding the black spots under the tail and body; is it just sand, and able to be wiped off?

Please reply as soon as any other developments occur, as I would like to see if he makes a full recovery!
