Question: Axolotl tail

Hello! I just received my two beautiful axolotls yesterday, and I noticed that my melanoid's tail was a lot different than my GFP Leucistic's tail. I am a a first time owner, and was just worried if something was wrong with her, so if anyone has any suggestions as to what it could be, let me know! It looks like it's split in half at the end, sort of like it's a structure for two tails... I have attached a photo of Ebony below.:D

That is crazy! Looks like a genetic defect, but i dont see why it should harm her.
 
I agree, this looks like a birth defect or genetic mutation of some kind, your axolotl looks healthy and happy though so I wouldn't worry about it. :happy:

No problem! good luck and congratulations with your new little ones. keep us updated as this little guy grows, ive never seen a tail like this and I think everyone will be interested to see how it develops and grows.
 
You will just have to see how it grows. but if it gets really bad to the point the axolotl might die because it could not swim properly, you might have to cut a part off and let it grow back.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
