My own kaiseris decided to give me a hint of how toxic they are recently - I was looking very carefully at one of them (which is why it was so close to my face) and the little scamp wiped its tail against my top lip. I went and washed my face just to be on the safe side, but even then my lip started to feel like it was burning

Boy this thread hits home. I do 100 venom extractions per week for natural toxins research and I am also one that does constant home improvement projects which dings up my fingers and hands nicely on a regular basis. Bottom line is if there is an open cut, cover if possible or no extraction that day. I am glad you are OK Johnny and please protect those hands!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
