Hello everyone, I have been thinking about getting some Mossy frogs for a small breeding project. I have heard they are pretty hardy and relatively simple to keep (compared to other frog species).

I have kept animals like turtles and snakes for years but never any amphibians. Just looking for some advice on keeping them that I may not find in a basic care sheet.
My biggest worry is not getting a female, I have heard the odds are not very good, something like every 1 in 20-25 are female. If this is true, I was planning on getting 5 tadpoles and hoping I could hit the 20-25% odds.

If anyone has owned these amazing looking frogs I would love to see some enclosures for inspirations. I have a 30 gallon tall tank I am planing to use as a semi aquatic set up, I figure this will give plenty of room for water feature at the bottom, with different levels of land features as it goes up.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
