I've drawn something fast in Photoshop. An example of how I though my tank should look the first week or so. Afterwards I will buy some more accesories. Here it is:

1. Bright sand
2. Rocks (Too big to fit in a mouth)
3. Plants
4. Pipe or some sort of hideout

Anything else I should add?

That will be fine as a start. You could always get some flat stone (slate) or tile, silicone, and build a little hide out of that right where you have your stones and still use a flower pot on its side, or a pvc pipe (plastic plumbing pipe) for a hide too. Some have even used coffee mugs and such.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
