This section on photo technique couldn't have started at a better time for me as I have just bought my first digital camera, and will be watching this section closely for tips.
A few of you will have already recieved some of my first attempts attached to emails, but
hopefully soon I will be able to take pics of as good quality as my camera will allow.

Your not alone Morg I recently brought a penttax optio 555 and have no idea what all the stuff is for. To make matters worse when the camara arrived the instructions were in french. I found the macro thing but even on a tripod the picture comes out a bit fuzzy. i have ordered a remote but that still han't come after 8 weeks any tips?

Fuzzy-ness is most frequently due to blur caused by too slow a shutter speed for handholding (or a bad tripod). The other issue might be that you haven't got enough depth of field - set the aperture so that f/xx reads close to the highest number you can set it to (depends on your lens). Setting the xx too high may lead to image degradation as it pushes the lens to its limits (doesn't do any harm though).

Macro photography indoors requires good lighting, preferably a flash system if you have it.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
