live feeder guppies and ghost shrimp?

I've strictly fed my axolotl a diet of live blackworms, frozen bloodworms and live brine shrimp.

As he is getting bigger I was thinking about getting him a couple of feeder guppies/ghost shrimp to give him a variety of prey items.
Has anyone tried this/currently feeding their axie this occassionaly?

I wanted to get feedback here before venturing into this.

Those items should be just fine, as long as you quarintine them.
You wouldnt want your axie getting some kind of parasite or fungus, from where ever they came from.

Thanks suzy, I would definitely quarantine.

I have read in older threads that folks have differing opinions on feeder guppies vs. feeder goldfish.
Does anyone have a fresh view on this topic? or does it basically just come down to what the axie prefers?

Ok, cool, so it's ok to feed them ghost shrimps right?
I was at frist thinking it might not be a good idea because ghost shrimps like to pinch a lot.
It might hurt the axolotl's eyes.
I'm not sure if they could regenerate eyes.

Personally If I was going to feed live fish or shrimp I would setup a small breeding operation. White cloud minnows readily breed. I woulld also consider regular cherry shrimp to breed. Very easy to breed and keep as a continual food supply.

Well considering they can regenerate their hearts and even brains when damaged, I can almost guarantee they can regenerate their eyes as well.
All in all they are very hardy and don't think a shrimp will be able to do much damage to them at all.

Although Axies regenerate arms and tails and their eyes do heal some. They are not perfect and their vision is lost if not greatly diminished

I've got ghost shrimp in my tank to help with cleaning the sand and with a little enrichment (ie. hunting). They will do the best they can to avoid a big moving creature. lol they aren't the brightest so they do get eaten. :wacko:

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
