Hello from Becky!

My name is Becky. I live in Tampa, Florida and have for most of my life. About 20 years ago I had a nice collection of Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians and fish, including fire salamanders and axolotls. Currently I have two fresh water tanks. One with a variety of goldfish, tetras and an albino clawed frog whom I've had for years. About a year ago I added another tank (both are 65 gal) and acquired two 6-month-old axolotls. Yesterday I noticed they were mating so I decided to join your forum. Today we have lots and lots of eggs.Hooray (proud mom)!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
