My interest is primarily in Axolotls, but I was first drawn in by wild salamanders while hiking in the Smoky Mountains. I don't have any of either at the moment, however, I am rounding up pieces and parts to set up a suitable tank. I have had fresh and saltwater fish tanks, and currently have a reef only tank. My empty tanks range from 20g to 250g, but I am having trouble with picking one for an axolotl tank.

By the way, Ax A Little is like the opposite of axolotl,
just like irony is the opposite of wrinkly.

Welcome!
I'm from Central Florida as well and like you, I am just learning and gathering stuff for my first Axolotl.

Clever name by the way.

i'm also still in the gathering phase. i'm pretty far from central fl though lol

incidentally, love the punny name.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
