Hey guys
My 3 year old axolotl Dobby has recently gained some raised brown/black bits on his side (see photos, you'll see he's always had pigment on his face)
Water is fine and he's acting completely normal.
Has anyone seen this before? Is it normal? Could it be new pigment? Also, he has black pigment on his finger tips now too. I've read somewhere this is a maturity thing?
Second image is just so you can see his face. Taken just before I got his poo out of the tank. He tries to bite me when I remove his poo. He's such a character! I love him.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
