Strange thing is that one couple produces a lot of duds and the other couple stopped laying after 15 eggs. I know they lay one at a time, but then I would still have to find one within a week. The female laying duds gave me 150 good eggs 2 years ago. Maybe if the temperatures rise again more eggs will come.

Both couples are laying nicely again, so that's a relief. Almost no duds. The juveniles of 2 years ago are doing well after I tuned my method of raising them, so I'm hoping that I have better results this year when I start with raising them this way.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
