Hi! I only have three guppies.. in a 5 gallon planted hex. It is cute.

My boyfriend has been talking forever about wanting a relatively large tank and keeping axolotls, so I got him a 30 gal for Christmas. We're in the process of setting it up-- and finding a place where we can get an axie. :) So, um, hello!

I like plants and easy fish [hello, guppies], he likes salamanders.

Welcome to the forum! The axolotls will be right at home with you since you both like guppies.:D

hi! welcome to the site how many axies are you getting? :D

@Greatwtehunter: ahhaha. OH GEEZ.
@tonimeloni: Probably just one..! I think, anyway. :) We haven't found any local-ish breeders yet, so we are just putting time into the aquascaping side of things. We're nesting, as it were.

There are breeders who post on this site when they have young'uns that are ready to go; keep an eye on the for sale section of the forum.

I think these axolotls are kind of muppet-ey looking, so even if you don't normally like salamanders, you might be surprised by their cuteness. (Not that I'm biased or anything. :D)

Welcome to the best salamander site on the web!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
