This showed up in the last few days. No one else in the tank seems to have any problems. What is it and how do I fix it? I'm really worried about him. Someone said it is an ammonia burn. I put ammonia remover in the tank last night but he seems worse.

Yeah, my first reaction was ammonia burn. The bright red of the gills and that red in the skin would certainly support it. You need to test your water, not use ammonia remover. I would suggest testing it and an 80% water change anyhow. Also check your pH. Something is wrong with your water for sure.

Aaaand I just noticed the blood worm hanging out there on the bottom of the tank. I would also suggest switching to nightcrawlers and when you do feed the occassional blood worm, make sure you use a dish\jar to put it in, so it can easily be suctioned out with a turkey baster when they are done. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
