Hello all,
I was wondering how varied the diet of ribbed newts should be and if it affects their health and color in anyway? Thanks,
-Gator

I use various sorts of food ithems like earthworms, frozen insectlarvaes, axlotl pellets. They really feed on anything so they are easy to keep on a varied diet.

I feed mine only carnivore pellets. They are in a heavily planted tank and have occasional access to snails/eggs and fish fry. They have been happy and healthy for three years on this diet. I used to over think it and fed a variety but have noticed no adverse effects from their limited diet. I feed them a couple times a week or so.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
