Just got an axolotl! I call her Salmantha!
Saw one of these bad boys at the pet store and just had to get one ordered for myself!
I've done a lot of research from this site, so I'm hoping I'm doing well so far!
I've been an avid fish keeper for many years, and hopefully my skill will roll onto axolotls, they're just so cute!
I can tell she's stressed but I would be a little stressed too after shipping, pet store, then to the new aquarium. The light was used for pictures only!

I have Salmantha in a 10 gallon aquarium
Black sand
Aquarium filter (it's too strong so I have to figure something out with that, so it's not being used right now)
Slate rock
A few fake plants (more to come)
And a cave I made with slate (which will soon be put all together with aquarium sealant)

I'm going to get a temp gauge tomorrow but I used my other aquarium along with a moss ball and some plants.

Next question is, what type or color pattern does this one have? I've seen a "lotl" on here but haven't seen this color with the gold eyes. What would you call this?
Thanks in advance and thanks for letting me on the site!

Hello and welcome! I am new here too~

Salmantha is gorgeous! I really hope she enjoys her new home. She looks like a white albino axolotl to me. I hope this helps!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
