Hi everyone! I'm new here, and have a question.

I recently bought a 60 gallon tank. Is that too big for 1 axolotl??
If not, what kind of set up should I do? Filter, substrate, plants, etc.

If it's too large for 1, I'll go from there. But if not, any help would be great.

Thanks!!

Hey, welcome to Caudata!
There's no such thing as too big of a tank for an axolotl. Depending on floor space of the tank you may be able to fit more axolotls, but a 60 gallon would be axolotl paradise! Do you know the dimensions of the tank?
Take a look at the page linked below, I think that it will answer your questions.

Good luck! If you want any clarification after reading the page I'll be happy to answer :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
