I know that most newts prefer a cooler temperature, but shipping in ~30s degrees fahrenheit, should i pack some room temperature gel packs around my container and then insulate it in styrofoam? Please do not post the link to the caudata culture article on shipping, as I have already read it, but it is not clear enough to me. I'm very concerned as this is my first shipment outwards.

The article suggests not to ship if it is below freezing, unless you are shipping over night which may limit some of the exposure risks. At very low temperatures, such as you describe, polystyrene or heat packs will not stop your package freezing if it is left exposed to the elements.

The safest advice is not to ship newts unless the temperature is suitable.

And its important to highlight that ship in summer with cold packs its useless too, your package stays hours at direct sunlight sometimes... so coldpacks are insufficient too

No personal experience, but I've heard heat pack generate too much heat for amphibians.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
