Hi!

Now I post some pics of my Cynops pyrrhogaster sasayamae one day after metamorphosis:

And for this subspecies the typical red dorsal stripe:

You can see that they are already red, because I mostly feed them with Artemia, Daphnia, Sheet lice, Hyalella azteca.
(like: http://www.caudata.org/forum/messages/985/16530.html?1086507173 )
You also can see the rest of the gills.

Hi Paul
How did you manage to keep him still in the first picture?

Hi Francesco,

I say to him "be a good boy, turn on your back, Francesco will see your pretty belly"

What are sheet lice?

Mind telling me how you culture you "scuds'. I have a culture running...but I think mine are probably gammarus.

Hm - is this not the right English word?
I mean Aphidae (aphids) - small insects (parasits) on plants!

Very interesting, Paul. Have you read the report "Food Habit of the Juvenile of the Japanese Newt Cynops pyrrhogaster" by Kumi Matsui, Koji Mochida and Masahisa Nakamura?

Zoological Science 20: 855-859 (2003)

Cool, I was wondering if I could feed newts those little "leaf lice". I have more than enough of them on my basil and lettuce.

Seriously, how did you keep it still? Probably be less stressful treating a sore on the belly of a female C. O

o.k.
It was coincidence that the newt lay calmly for a while. I used that quickly for a photo.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
