Hi I recently became a first time axolotl owner, I got 2 axies, Mojo and Goob. I'm a little worried about Mojo, I've noticed his belly has gotten darker than it was a few days ago. He has a very fine sand substrate in his tank and I feed him earthworms cut into small pieces so he can eat them easily. Does he look healthy to you guys? If not what should I do??

The picture didn't attach. How big is you axolotl? It could just be the dirt that the earth worms are eating that looks black in its stomach. As long as its stomach is a normal shape, it's pooping, and eating fine I wouldn't worry.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
