Filter Question!

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is it okay to use an already cycled filter? I've already cycled a tank for my goldfish and am moving him up to a bigger tank, and now I want to use my goldfish's old filter for my axolotl. Can I use the filter that already has all the good bacteria, or should I sanitize it and start the process over? I guess I'm just worried there might be something from the goldfish that could hurt the axolotl.

If the goldfish are healthy, it is a great choice to reuse that filter. It is loaded with healthy bacteria. Don't wash it out with tap water. You can rinse it out with clean water from the fish tank. Good luck!

Thanks everybody! I'll be reusing the filter then, it'll be nice to not have to wait for it to cycle all over again :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
