If you're going to bleach, you HAVE to rinse about a million times and then cycle with an extra dose dechlorinator before you even think about putting anything else in there.

Leah, copper is toxic to axies (Ed, jump in here if I'm wrong).

Copper is toxic to fish as well... I think most meds are toxic to some extent, or they wouldn't work? Are axies more sensitive to copper than say, a goldfish? I used to have puffers (scaleless and no gill covers, so super sensitive to meds!) The general rule with them (or any other scaleless fish) is to halve the dose and double the treatment time. Maybe something similar with axies would allow them to be treated with conventional meds? Or has anyone come across copper-free columnaris treatments?

Axies are more similar to scale-less fish, but I really couldnt tell you about treatment.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
