Hello!

I found these bugs while I was cleaning my iguana's terrarium, and I wonder if my CFBN juvies could be fed with them. They were under the logs and I think they are harmless. Anyway, I prefer to ask here before.

Sorry for the pic quality, they run a lot.

They look like silverfish or firebrats, something from the order Thysanura. I've heard of people feeding firebrats out and I don't think they are harmful.

I have NO earthly clue what those guys are but if the are soft bodied and claw/pincer less then I say go for it. I would try just one first and see what happens. If they taste nasty then they will just spit them out. Although if you have any reservations about feeding them to the newts then I wouldn't do it.

We call those "pececillos de plata", they are very common in bathrooms.
If they come from a safe source(no polutants, no nasty things that they might have eaten, etc) they are a good food source. Some people culture them(another species though).

I would be wary of the ones you caught cause you never know where they have been.

Aye, those are "silverfish". They are perfectly harmless and can be used as feeders without issue. They like cool, damp, dark places with a bit of decaying plant matter to feed on. They are closely related to "firebrats" which prefer warm, dark dry areas.

Lol, so fast answers, thanks

Yeah, I knew the name we call them here at home, but no scientific name or if they can be eaten.

I have a colony under the terrarium logs, and they have been there for a long time, you never see they until a log is moved and they are only inside the terrarium, they are not anywhere else at home. That area is controlled too, because I have one iguana there so I think I'm going to try feeding juvies, and watching what happens.

Thanks!

One juvie ate 2 quickly, it hunted them without any doubt.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
