My first multilayer tank and Tylototriton pulcherrima

Hi, friends!

My first multilayer tank is nearing completion. I made many mistakes, leading to seperation of the underside glass of the first layer and the front glass. And water pipes on the side were not firmly bongding. Next time, I would not make these mistakes again.

Here is the first group habitant of my tank (Tylototriton pulcherrima).

They're Tylototriton shanjing. This is the brown phase, one of four identified mitochondrial lineages, described as T.verrucosus pulcherrima. The op treats it as a full species in the first post [and the thread topic above ^^], but the scientific consensus at the moment is that this is a synonym or subspecies of T.shanjing since they only differ in mitochondrial DNA and color and are only one of four such lineages. There are currently nearly 20 identified and mostly named species in the genus.

Great rack system! The tanks look very clean and very well organized. I really like the moss/fern cushion that all the newts hang out on.
What kind of led lights are on tanks? They seem to put out a very clear, white light. Do the plants and moss grow well underneath them?
 
Great looking caging! Are you thinking about a diy post about them (nudge, nudge)?

They are Tylototriton pulcherrima,2012.
They looks more red than Tylototriton shanjing and their abdomen is golden.

They're normal led light bar(warm white). Moss is collected only few days ago, so it looks good. Though light is not so powerful, these moss or water plants dose not need much light. And I have a window toward the south not far from tanks. Maybe it's OK.

Pulcherima looks far more related to Shanjing than Verrucosus,Morphological and the way the behave . I have also noticed different crown shapes on 2 females skulls.

width:45cm
height:30cm (15cm for operating space)
filter on the left side
the maximum of water depth is 10cm

Pretty newts and great rack system! But I would suggest to increase the terrestrial portion and offer more shelters.
 
I love the tanks ! well thought out just two questions are the access doors at the front hinged or sliding? and is the total weight of the stack born on just the three glass (8mm ?) side panels of the bottom tank or have you taken the weight some other way regards KB ps I to would love the instructions.

1. the front doors is sliding
2. 8mm is OK. 10mm is better. And you'd better put two batten at the bottom of tank. Because the bottom is not flat 100%, and you should consider shape change. I put crach pad at the bottom, but wood batten is better.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
