Hello everyone, my name is Savannah and I am very excited to join this community! For a long time I had a beautiful baby named Toothless, he was a melanoid and I loved him dearly. I raised him from a baby and had him for almost 3 years before he sadly passed away earlier this year. I think it was just his time, but it didn't stop me from taking his passing very hard. However, after almost 6 months of mourning, I have finally found the strength to take down his tank, do a deep clean, and re set up in hopes of one day finding another axie or two to call mine. I am currently allowing my 55 gallon tank to cycle but am looking forward to interacting with and learning from this community. My photo albums contain pictures of my angel toothless and my tank that is newly set up, it will be adjusted and monitored for a while before getting any new axies. Thank you for reading!

Welcome to the forum! Sorry you lost your axie so young. I hope you get another one (or two) soon! Maybe he just had some genetic weakness.
Your tank looks great, by the way!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
