This is our little guy, Steeevie (thats not a typo, we are just weirdos).
When we first got him, he didnt have any back legs because his tank mate ate them..now his legs are so cute and fully intact!!

The first two are when we first got him :) the rest are a mix of recent and most recent. We have changed his substrate to sand since the more recent pictures, have no fear, the last two are most recent, he loves his java moss and is so tiny in his new 55 gallon tank!!!

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to have a tank that big and only one axolotl.

Some of the most stunning axolotls I've seen have come from the breeders on this forum. Something to keep in mind when you start looking.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
